Yes. Out of square is the normal condition here, not an obstacle. We scribe the edges to the actual walls instead of trusting a right angle, which is slower and looks far better than forcing a straight cut.
Does the historic district mean I need permission for new floors?
Not for interior work. The county's historic area work permit covers exterior alterations, and Garrett Park has its own municipal review on top of that. Both are about the outside of the building. Floors inside are your call.
