A seam that keeps opening means the field is loose and the whole room needs tension. Carpet lifting at a doorway usually means the tack strip pins are gone or the subfloor got wet.
Ripples across a whole room are not a repair at all. That is carpet stretching, and it is a different visit with different tools.
The remnant in your garage is the best starting point. Even so, the carpet in the room has been walked on for years and faded near the window, and the remnant has not. We hold the two together in the room, under the light you actually live with, before we cut anything.
If there is no remnant, we borrow from a closet floor or the carpet under a permanent piece of furniture. That hidden spot gets the new material, and the room you look at gets the aged match. Pile direction gets set the same way as the surrounding carpet, because carpet laid backwards reads as a different shade.

Delaminated backing, flattened traffic lanes, widespread pet staining, or a room already carrying three visible patches all point the same direction. At that point, carpet installation and replacement is the cheaper answer over any real timeframe, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a fourth repair.

No, and we will not promise that. A good patch is hard to find from standing height in normal light. Up close, in raking sunlight, you can usually spot the joint. Wear and fade in the surrounding carpet are what give it away.
We take the donor piece from a spot nobody sees, usually the back of a bedroom closet or under a sofa. Then we fill that spot with new carpet from the shelf. The visible room gets the perfect match.
Often yes. It depends on the size, whether the stain soaked into the pad, and how much donor carpet we can find. A pet stain also needs the pad and subfloor treated, or the smell comes right back.
When the backing is delaminating, the traffic lanes are worn flat, or you are on your fourth patch. At that point the repairs cost more than the carpet is worth. We will say so instead of taking the work.
